Pat spent her youth making dolls clothes from the parachute silk that her mother had acquired. As she was unable to master a treadle sewing machine this was all done by hand. She studied Art with Embroidery at college so was taught many techniques. When she had a daughter her love of smocking came to the fore and joining the Embroiderer’s Guild encouraged her to continue stitching

As a hand embroiderer, I am inspired by plants and natural objects. I use my photographs and drawings to create the linear designs. I have recently been experimenting with a variety of stitches and have been interested in the way they can form patterns and rhythms. I stitch into silk organza which is then stiffened, allowing me to cut into the fabric to create an open structure.
