As Sue grows older she has developed a heightened awareness of her surroundings and the joy that they bring her. She feels a desire, a need, to express the wonder of a landscape, a place, the nature within it and her connection to it. Using a palette of simple stitches she describe that sense of place.

Janet Grimes
Janet has worked as a woven textile designer before becoming an art teacher for thirty years. Now retired as well as being involved in textile exhibitions she enjoys painting in acrylics and watercolours and keeping a sketchbook diary on her travels.

Julie was born and raised in a north west cotton town, growing up in the heart of the Lancashire hills and valleys. Surrounded by the making process, she was taught to sew, stitch and knit by her mother and maternal grandmother.

Pamela Eccles
Textiles have long been a part of Pam’s everyday life. Since renovating her property in 2015 she managed to acquire a room for her art and to store her ever increasing stock of materials. She currently works full time at the University of Central Lancashire, teaching on the BA Hons Interior Design course.

Chris Cannon
Chris developed a real interest in working with textiles while studying Needlework at school with an inspirational teacher. While working full time, Chris studied Embroidery City and Guilds which opened up the limitless possibilities of working creatively with a range of materials and the opportunity to meet and work with like-minded people. Pat Fisher
Pat spent her youth making dolls clothes from the parachute silk that her mother had acquired. As she was unable to master a treadle sewing machine this was all done by hand. She studied Art with Embroidery at college so was taught many techniques. When she had a daughter her love of smocking came to the fore and joining the Embroiderer’s Guild encouraged her to continue stitching

Joyce Preston
Joyce worked in secondary school education for 30 years as an art teacher after completing a ceramics degree. Textiles has been a huge part of her adult life and after completing a City & Guilds course and joining Preston Threads has focussed on embroidery.
