Julie was born and raised in a north west cotton town, growing up in the heart of the Lancashire hills and valleys. Surrounded by the making process, she was taught to sew, stitch and knit by her mother and maternal grandmother.

Much of my work is influenced by my countryside roots. The flora and fauna, patterns, light and form found here allow me to explore abstract design in layers, colour and texture. I enjoy the rhythm of repetition and the variety of contrasts.
Being creative, curious and observational has always been part of my makeup. I can find inspiration from the most mundane or obscure of places. Being a nurse, I am always interested in people and how we live our lives. I like the excitement of a new challenge and find experimenting with fabrics, stitch, mixed media, printing and dyeing fascinating. I am still passionate about learning; discovering new techniques or trying a new style.
